Our Curriculum Vision

Curriculum Vision Statement

At Weston Favell CE Primary School, our core values of Communication, Creativity and Community enable children to become confident, life-long learners with a sense of belonging. These values are at the heart of our curriculum which is designed to provide opportunities for children to become unique individuals and to live life in all its fullness. These core values act as drivers of our curriculum.

Our knowledge rich curriculum at WFPS is ambitious for all; immersing children in broad and rich experiences, that ignite and sustain interest in the awe and wonder of the world around them.  Our curriculum ensures progression of substantive knowledge (the facts) and disciplinary knowledge (the action taken within a particular subject to gain knowledge – for example, in science it might mean testing hypotheses).  Our curriculum is progressive and well sequenced so that pupils can build on previous learning, make connections, and embed knowledge in the long-term memory.  Learning is remembered and not just encountered.  Knowledge organisers are used to summarise units of work and outline the key knowledge.  These also provide a learning link between home and school.  Vocabulary is explicitly taught in each unit of work and children are given the opportunity to apply this through exploratory talk.  This provides teachers with opportunities to check for understanding.

Our curriculum goes beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum, meeting the needs and enriching the lives of children within our local context.  We aim for children to be excited by their learning though memorable experiences.

Positive relationships, based on mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do. Our children gain a growing understanding of the world they live in and learn how to live alongside and show respect for a diverse range of people.

Having oracy at the core further enhances our curriculum and gives every child a voice. We create confident, articulate speakers, who are interesting and interested.

We provide children with the knowledge, skills, and self-belief, which will enable them to: grasp and tenaciously pursue opportunities, excel as individuals and make a positive contribution in every stage of their education and to society in their later lives.

Our subject leaders have a shared vision, that is consistent in its approach, based on evidence-informed strategies.
